This breakthrough not only elevates our technology to new heights but also positions typing biometrics as a viable alternative to traditional biometrics such as fingerprint, face, or voice recognition.
Transforming typing biometrics with advanced AI
Our innovative Authentication API allows for authentication based on matching typing patterns against previous recorded ones, a technology also known as keystroke dynamics or typing biometrics. These improvements are mainly affecting our SameText solution which uses typing patterns of Type 2 (recorded over identical short phrases, particularly used by TypingDNA Verify 2FA, where users type 4 words for authentication).
While typing biometrics has been a game-changer for secure authentication, this new AI core engine has achieved results previously thought impossible. In our internal testing we’ve surpassed industry benchmarks, dramatically reducing error rates and increasing accuracy.
Industry-leading performance
Here’s what sets our new AI model apart:
- Accuracy: Starts at 98.75% with an FMR (False Match Rate) of less than 0.2% at initial enrollment (3 samples).
- Fast improvement: At 6 samples FMR already drops to only 0.1% and beyond 15 samples FMR drops below 0.01%.
- Comparison with our previous models: We’ve seen a consistent reduction of error, especially for regular users who should already have 15+ typing patterns enrolled (since new typing patterns are automatically enrolled after each successful authentication).
- Industry comparison: These metrics rival or exceed those of traditional biometrics like fingerprint, face, and voice recognition.

*Computed by analysing over 50,000 typing samples of 4-word phrases (approx 30 chars each). Results may vary by test case, but since the same data was fed to both AI engines, we expect to see proportional improvements in other test cases as well. Results may slightly worsen when the exactly same keyboard is used by different users.

2FA without phones
Our innovative 2FA/MFA method, based on typing biometrics, was granted a patent in February 2024, underscoring our leadership in authentication technology. This method leverages typing patterns as a secure and seamless way to authenticate users, offering a unique alternative to traditional biometrics and phone based 2FA.
Currently available in various flavors – including OIDC/native integration for IAMs such as Okta, Ping, ForgeRock, or Keycloak – TypingDNA Verify 2FA is quickly becoming the de facto 2FA method when phones are not present/not allowed.
